Bronx Zoo

William Temple Hornaday, was one of the first true conservationists. He started New York's Bronx Zoological Park, which today is part of five zoos in the city area. The zoo began like the other zoos, and has over 800 animals and even once had a Mbuti man named "Ota Benga" on display, though this was the time period's fault. The zoo also once had hippos, chimpanzees and Mexican panthers as well. Today, the zoo does not have as many species, but the zoo with its over 600 species collection is a symbol for conservation worldwide, and is working to help people, species and the places in which they live.
