New Jersey's Special Birds

Despite its small size and densely packed human population, New Jersey is a birder's paradise, with a prime mid-Atlantic location and various habitats ranging from coastal wetlands to deciduous forests to the famous Pine Barrens. Cape May is renowned for the scores of migratory birds that pass through the area in fall (among them the namesake Cape May Warbler, which doesn't actually nest in the state), while spring migration is the time for the World Series of Birding, a conservation fundraiser in which teams of birders race across the state to see as many species as possible in a 24-hour period.
