125 Essential Movies, According to Martin Scorsese - Page 4

A compilation of three separate sources by Mental Floss' Colin Ainsworth. This list includes the "85 movies 'you need to see to know anything about film,'" Scorsese stated in a thorough interview with Fast Company in 2012. Scorsese provided a list of nearly 40 recommendations to start familiarizing oneself with foreign film to a young filmmaker named Colin Levy. The third source is Scorsese's contribution to Sight & Sound magazine.
Scorsese is someone I greatly admire, not only as a filmmaker, but also as a cinephile, film preservationist, and lover of film. I found substantial significance in visualizing this list chronologically as the article suggests. Through the list's structure I can tangibly conceptualize the course of film history in a modest yet realistic fashion. I've seen inspirations flow from these films into other films decades later. Each entry of this list is a true gem. Can't wait to finish watching the rest of these films and further fall in love with film.
