Movies From Iran
The Iranian New Wave began in the mid-1960s with films such as جلد مار [Serpent's Skin] (1964) and خشت و آینه [Brick and Mirror] (1965), later achieving international recognition with داریوش مهرجویی [Dariush Mehrjui]'s گاو [The Cow] (1969). The new wave was a reaction against the popular cinema which didn't portray realistic daily life or the changes in the society. Films of the new wave were heavily censored in the 1970s, culminating in the Iranian Revolution of 1979, which practically ended the movement. From its ashes rose the New Iranian Cinema, which went on to achieve even more widespread recognition worldwide.
