Sequels Connected to the First Movie(s) but Completely Ignore all the Other Ones

This is basically Hollywood's biggest cop-out: you make what is essentially a reboot, but it's still a sequel to the first movie (and whichever other ones were well-liked), but it completely disregards all the other sequels, prequels, and whatever. Look, don't think about it too much. Just watch the movie; it's fine.
