Once could argue that the US has produced greater individual artists (Elvis, Dylan, Springsteen, etc etc) while the UK has generated far superior bands (Beatles, Stones, Kinks etc etc). One could also argue that the best UK bands are just ripoffs of American originals (the Sex Pistols sounded like a cross between the Ramones and the New York Dolls, f'rinstance). Whatever, this list will not include any singer-songwriters or Brit bands, which may not make it the most accurate reflection of rock history but does pay tribute to the breadth and vitality of American popular music. Plus, does the world really need another music list that deteriorates into a Beatles-Stones-Dylan smackdown? Really?
