Wyoming's Special Birds - Page 2

Wyoming is the least populated of the 50 states, which means there's plenty of room for wildlife to roam. The most popular places to see such spectacles, of course, are Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, but there's more to see than just the big land mammals; Wyoming has lots of birds, too. The many mountain ranges are home to charismatic northern birds like Great Gray Owl and Pine Grosbeak; wetlands shelter recovering populations of the Trumpeter Swan; grasslands host nesting specialties like longspurs and Burrowing Owl; riparian forests add several "eastern" songbirds to a state traditionally thought of as "western"; and the Flaming Gorge area has the northernmost populations of some desert birds.
