"With 2021 came a Halloween (1978) sequel and with 2022 a Scream (1996) sequel. The first installment in each franchise is remarkable, but the many sequels (even those with some redeemable qualities nestled within the cheese) seem to be unneeded, though lucrative, embellishments. Halloween and Scream succeeded because they brought a fresh perspective to the genre, delivered in the hands of capable directors. Many horror movies with or without sequels never got the original movie right though, having potential beyond the finished product. Whether it be an intriguing premise, protagonist, antagonist, or theme, some cheesy horror films cry out for a remake with a better budget, cast, or director."
