10 of the Best Quiet Movie Performances of All Time

"When we think about great performances, it's often the boisterous and dialogue-filled that come to mind. It's Daniel Day-Lewis as the ominous, intense oil baron Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood. It's Jesse Eisenberg's frantic Mark Zuckberberg in The Social Network. It's Robert De Niro as the explosively stubborn Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull. Acting that has a lot of range, a lot of dialogue and a lot of emotion is considered to be the most difficult, and therefore the most impressive when done well. But there are many "quiet" performances that often do not receive the praise they deserve. This is acting at intimacy rather than theatrics, and when done right, a word can say more than a five-minute monologue."
