Award recognition isn't everything, but it is a shame that these truly great Western movies never earned a Best Picture nomination. The Western genre has been a huge part of Hollywood since its early days and continues to produce popular and acclaimed movies. However, even the best Western movies of all time are not guaranteed success at the Oscars - after all, only four Westerns (or neo-Westerns) have won Oscars for Best Picture. There are a number of iconic Westerns that are now considered among the great titles of the genre, yet missed out on even earning a nomination. Ranging from John Wayne Westerns to Spaghetti Westerns to Westerns of the 21st century, these movies deserved a little more recognition from the Academy.
