18th Century Novels to Read Before You Die, With a Novella and a Short-Story Collection

DISCLAIMER: THIS LIST IS MY OWN CREATION, BASED ON MY VERY LIMITED KNOWLEDGE AND STUDIES. If I missed something fundamental, please be kind!
The Eighteenth Century established a lot of themes and genres common in modern literature - the Gothic novel was born with The Castle of Otranto, and the proto-modernist approach to the novel that is Tristram Shandy are two notable examples. In England, the very first examples of novels date from the start of this Century: many think that Robinson Crusoe is the first British novel.
The list is embarrassingly Eurocentric, especially because I could not find English translations of many of the excellent examples of Japanese narrative from the era - Hiraga Gennai, anybody? Also because of my ignorance of world literature, for which I apologise.
I tried my best to add Chinese and Japanese masterpieces of the time, stretching a bit my rule of only adding novels with the Ugetsu Monogatari, a collection. I hope someone will jump in the rabbit hole!
