Kurosawa directed 7 of the top 25 Japanese films, per TSPDT, while another acclaimed director, Yasujiro Ozu, directed 5. I *almost* excluded Ozu, as well, but felt I didn't have to. As a result, Ozu dominates *this* list, with a total of 6 films. Kenji Mizoguchi didn't do too badly, either, with 5 films. (an early draft of this list excluded the works of all 3)
