40 Dullest "Classic" Rock Songs

What makes a song "dull?" It's not always length. Yes, the 23-minute "In-a-Gadda-da-Vida" could stand to be 22 minutes shorter, but the Eagles can bore you in the breadth of a ringtone. Overexposure rarely make a song more exciting, but anyone who's explored an band's entire catalog has found a few "deep" tracks that should have been buried under a few more layers -- the millionth time you hear "Bohemian Rhapsody" will still be more stimulating than your first encounter with "The Prophet's Song." And no, not all lamestream ditties were recorded by bands in what most music fans consider the "classic rock" pantheon -- Soul Asylum, for example, was nominally "alternative," but stole most of its ideas from tired dinosaur bands and exhausted them further in dirges like "Black Gold." Any rocker is capable of producing monotonous riffs, trite lyrics, self-indulgent guitar solos . . . some bands produce nothing else.
