70 Years; 70 Books: Novels and Stories

Our maverick English Teacher looks at his upcoming 70th birthday and then lists 70 novels and story collections that he remembers reading with great pleasure. Some were assigned reading from college days long past, some are major works that he has taught as well as read, and some are personal reading remembered as having a profound effect on him, or just being extremely enjoyable. Our compiler made no effort to edit or impose any meaning on the list; he thought of 70 books he liked and then stopped.
