A British Literature Survey Course

These are the texts I have assigned in my first semester of teaching British Literature. We're only reading one or two poems from each poet, only one short story for the short story writers, and we're only reading excerpts from the non-fiction texts. Here's a list of the poems:

Wroth: "When every one to pleasing pastime hies"
Herbert: "The Pulley" and "The Flower"
Milton: "When I consider how my light is spent"
Wordsworth: Michael
Byron: "Darkness"
Tagore: "The Postmaster" (short story)
Yeats: "Easter 1916" and "The Second Coming"
Achebe: "Dead Man's Path" (short story)
Heaney: "Digging" and "Death of a Naturalist"
Walcott: "A Far Cry from Africa"
