Big or small, grand or simple, manicured or artfully natural, a blaze of colour or an oasis of green, town or country - parks and gardens add colour and beauty to all our lives. Some of these are incredibly grand, filled with statuary and probably surrounding a palace. Others are almost secret little nooks in the heart of a city. There's a few beautiful cemeteries and a couple that are Mother Nature's work. Some suffer from their own fame - best to visit them out of season if you can. Visiting a garden or three is always part of our travelling plans when we're away, and a favourite day out when we're at home.
