Best Books of 2020: These 13 Titles Scored Perfect 4-Star Reviews From USA TODAY's Critics

Opioid addiction. Thomas Cromwell. A fictional '60s British rock band. The actual apocalypse. They're topics with little in common, except that they were the subjects of some of the best books released this year. It's hardly novel anymore to note that 2020 has been something of a dumpster fire. What is novel is, well, just how many good novels (and memoirs, essay collections, and other worthy books) hit shelves and helped us through the boredom of social isolation. While our critics raved about dozens of books in 2020, just 13 of them scored the highest of honors: perfect ★★★★ (out of four) reviews.
Here's what we loved reading most this year.
