Books That Make a Penwing

50 books which have been or are important to me... Generated off the top of my head so I'll kick myself when I spot glaring omissions.
Mostly one book per author - except where it isn't. Usually the first in a series (but do I want Colour of Magic representing Discworld and Terry Pratchett? And the Gormenghast trilogy is inseparable to me). Translations - Julie Rose's excellent translation of Les Miserables from 2010 is *the* one to go for.
