Some are huge hits. Some are obscure. All of them could get your toes a-tappin' until you pay attention to the lyrics and realize you're humming along with an ode to bestiality, nuclear war, domestic abuse, school shootings, pedophilia, suicide, cannibalism, etc etc. That's why I've never believed in the subliminal power of music. Millions of people bought the 45 of "Mack the Knife" in 1959, and very few of them went on to become serial killers. (Granted, one of them might have been noted music fan and aspiring songwriter Charles Manson, who penned item # 26, but I believe there were other factors involved in Charlie's descent into psychosis.)
