Classics Jim Has Actually Read - Page 2

Academic Snobbery is an interesting thing. During my high school teaching career, I was constantly being razzed on by some of my peers because I hadn't read this 19th century novel of manners or that piece of 20th Century American realism or this other piece of French surrealism or… Well, you get the idea. I'd tell them that that wasn't my field of study, and when I asked if they had read things that were in my field, they would become dismissive, saying that it was hardly the same thing. It didn't really bother me, but after seeing a lot of the lists here, I decided to put in my two cents. So here are 313 classics I have actually read. Apparent duplications reflect different translations or editions. I could have kept going, but then the list would have become interminable, not to mention intolerable. I have endeavored to stick to books that have been published as classics although one or two interlopers may have snuck in.
