Contemporary Criminals: The Works of Steve Hamilton
Since he burst onto the scene with his Shamus and Edgar-winning first novel "A Cold Day in Paradise", Steve Hamilton has carved out a special place in the contemporary world of Hard-boiled detective and Crime fiction. Starting with his ongoing Alex McKnight series set in Michigan's upper peninsula along the Canadian border, Hamilton has by and large eschewed the excesses of current crime writing and instead has focused on character driven stories; Alex McKnight occupies the middle ground between John Sandford's Lucas Davenport "Prey" novels and Lawrence Block's Matt Scudder novels. In recent years Hamilton has branched out with two stand-alone novels, "Night Work" and the Edgar -winning "The Lock Artist", and a new series about ex-con Nick Mason, and has established himself as a major figure in Crime Writing today.
