In April 2025, on the Reddit sub r/suggestmeabook someone posted - "I'm desperate for a 10/10 - suggest me a book pls!! I'm 25m and a voracious reader. I'm also rather sparing with my five-star ratings and desperately need something show-stopping after a recent drag... I like all genres, genuinely. Sally Rooney, Joe Abercrombie, Larry McMurtry and Haruki Murakami are some of my fav authors. I've read about 20 books so far this year but only two have been five-star reads: Dune; The Road. Want something that's going to blow me away. I'm open to anything but love fantastic writing and gripping characters."
And the sub provided. This is a list of the responses- deduped. The variety of opinions and recommendations is what makes this a great list.
I did not include books: where someone said "anything by" a specific author or an author was not given and I could not reasonably verify.
If I missed anything else, I apologize, I'm human and I make mistakes. Enjoy!
