J.D. Wetherspoon is a pub & restaurant company in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It was founded in 1979 by Tim Martin, and named after one of his teachers who had told him he wouldn't amount to anything.
Many Wetherspoon pubs are conversions of existing buildings, including banks, churches, post offices, theatres, and even a former public swimming pool.
