(Extremely) Abridged History of Black Metal

This is what I would consider a largely uncontroversial (as if anything in metal ever is), straight-and-narrow family tree for what we now consider to be black metal music - focusing on the sound and not the aesthetics. Most of this is straight from the horse's mouth, as they say. There are obvious omissions such as Mercyful Fate, European thrash, and death metal in general depending on how you look at it (insofar as the 2nd wave of Norwegian black metal was a rejection of trends in death metal, but still includes elements of the sound)
