"F"-Rated Gothic Novels

The worst novels read by Elsa J. Radcliffe (henceforth known as "the Leslie Halliwell of Gothic literature") for her 1979 reference book, Gothic Novels of the Twentieth Century: An Annotated Bibliography. "(F) means, in my opinion, the work is essentially unfit for human consumption—alas, there are a number thereof."
Some of her annotations:
"Altogether a wretched book and I can't believe a sincere one." —The Great Stone Heart
"Roberta's husband receives a stupid and melodramatic cable from his family and leaves their honeymoon to take care of it. The rest of the story is just like the telegram." —The House on the Drive
"If you can wade through the awkward narrative, the constant rehashing of what's happened so far, and the heroine's endless speculations over what's going on, you might find an entertaining story. I couldn't." —Bitters Wood
"A perfectly dreadful book in every respect!" —The Devil's Own
"Dumb, dumb du-dumb dumb. Dumb dumb." —The White Ghost of Fenwick Hall
