First Two Are Good, Third Is Bad, Fourth Is Awful (A Common Franchise Trend)

Ever since I first started getting into film and film reviews I noticed a commonality among franchises. Almost any time a movie series got to it's fourth, it had become a hot mess. It would start strong with the first two, then the third would be poorly received but not terrible, and then the fourth would be universally crapped on. I am basing this on general critical consensus of the films, not my own opinion. Occasionally I've included examples where the second film isn't hotly received either, but compared to the third and fourth are much better (like the Jaws films)
