Formative Films in the Early Cinephile Life of Cinema Seeker - Page 3

This is a list of some of the films that I saw between early 1987 and the end of 1990. This is the period where I became a burgeoning film fan and my life as a cinephile began. This period covers my last few months of 8th grade through the end of the first half of my senior year of high school. These films are listed roughly in the order in which I recall seeing them (I did consult a few of my old datebooks for accuracy). These are not all of the films that I saw during this period. However, these are films that furthered my cinephilia in some way, helped shaped my aesthetic sense, furthered my passion for movies, or simply fueled some long-standing interests. Some of these films were seen in theaters (both first-run and revival houses). Most were seen on premium cable channels or VHS. The first two films on my list are key. I definitely trace my lifelong interest in cinema back to the time in early 1987 that I saw "The Last Picture Show" and "Taxi Driver."
