Four Books, American Literature, Ebook Edition - Page 5

Believe it or not, there have been American literary novels published this century which are not "Where the Crawdads Sing" (which I did not include because Delia Owens has only published one work of fiction this century [and probably doesn't need to write another]). Like America itself, this literature of this century is more diverse, with more black, female, Native, immigrant, LGBTQ+ authors joining the mainstream. And either genre fiction is becoming more literary or literary fiction is becoming less literary, take your pick, but I'm guessing high school English teachers aren't sneering at fantasy and science fiction as much as they did during my youth.
