Growing Up With Monsters: Memories of a 60s Monster Kid

The release of the old Universal Horror Movies to television as a package called "Shock Theater" in the late 1950s, followed by the publication of "Famous Monsters of Filmland", created a craze for all things monstrous and horrific among adolescent and teenage boys and (some) girls. The craze lasted into the early 1970s, and the kids were known as "monster kids".I was one of them, and I still have an abiding fondness for the horror/dark fantasy genre; so much so, in fact, that I've actually taught courses in it. Anyway, here are some of the things that started it all.
