Independent Heroines in Books

As a librarian, I give book recommendations all the time. One of the questions that comes up over and over is for books with strong girls or independent girls or just special girls. Sometimes it's for kids, but sometimes it's not. Here's a selection of books for all ages (though, let's be real, most of these are YA) that feature independent girls. So, how many have you tried?
