The movies were successful in one way or another -- receiving Oscar nominations, being certified "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes, launching a franchise, and/or earning a lot of money. (To be clear, some books have more than one film adaptation, and perhaps only one was a success!) There are even claims that the movies improved upon a few of these books.
