John Kobal Presents the Top 100 Movies (1988 Book) - Page 3

For this once well-known book, Kobal polled 81 well-known filmmakers and critics from across the globe. He asked them to submit a list of the top 10 films of all time. He used the typical point system where a first place vote was worth ten points, a second place vote was worth nine points, etc. Films on unranked lists were given 5.5 points each. The 81 individual lists are in the back of the book. Several people have tallied the lists themselves and discovered that Kobal made some math mistakes that would particularly affect the last 10 or so choices on the list. Still, this is not a horrible place to start if you want to explore the inner ring of the basic canon of world film. I was a fairly new film fan in 1988 and I found this book very helpful at the time. The Ivan the Terrible films were listed as one film by the book. So was the Apu trilogy. That is why this list actually has 103 films.
