Joe "King" Carrasco (born Joseph Charles Teutsch) is a Tex-Mex new wave guitarist, vocalist & songwriter known as the king of Tex-Mex rock. He mixes Nuevo Wavo rock and Latin rhythms. In 7th grade, he began playing in garage bands in west Texas and was often on the beaches of Mexico, falling in love with Mexican music. Back in Texas he formed the band JKC & El Molino, which included many of the future Texas Tornados. He released "Tex-Mex Rock & Roll", his first LP in 1979. In late 1979, he joined with Kris Cummings, Brad Kizer & Mike Navarro to form JKC & the Crowns, releasing their first single, "Party Weekend." Soon they were playing chic NYC venues, generating lines around the block. The band signed to Stiff Records and toured the world extensively. Carrasco was interviewed in Rolling Stone and appeared on SNL. "Party Weekend" was re-recorded by MTV as "Party Christmas" & the video is still a popular 'share' every Xmas among Facebook fans.
