These were the ten most populous cities in the U.S. in 1800, the year of the second U.S. Census. The actual #6 and #7, Northern Liberties Township and Southwark, respectively, were both incorporated into Philadelphia in 1854, and so #11 and #12, Newport and Newburyport, respectively, move up into the top 10 on this list.
