Largest U.S. Cities (1850)

This is a list of the most populous U.S. cities in 1850, the year of the seventh U.S. Census. This was the first decade in which a city west of the Mississippi River (St. Louis) made the top 10. Brooklyn was separate from New York City until 1898, so is listed separately here, while the actual #9, Spring Gardens district, was consolidated with Philadelphia in 1854, as were #11-12 (Northern Liberties and Kensington districts), moving #13 (Pittsburgh) into the top 10 on this list.
