Largest U.S. Cities (1950)

These were the most populous U.S. cities in 1950, the year of the 17th U.S. Census. The populations of many cities peaked in this census (including 8 of the top 10 on this list), decreasing over the following decades as a result of suburbanization and the growing interstate system. In this decade, Washington, D.C. also re-entered the official top 10 for the first time since 1820, while Boston made its last appearance in the top 10.
