Vertigo was a comics imprint started by DC comics in 1993. Seeing the growing popularity of their of more mature and experimental comics (such as their ongoing "Sandman" and "Swamp Thing" titles), DC decided to start a new line of comics dedicated to these new, subversive takes on old characters.
As the decade went on, the line expanded it's field to all kinds of comics, and proved to be a desirable location for comic writers to publish more meaty or oft kilter stories.
In 2020, the line was cancelled and replaced by "DC Black Label", putting an end to one of the most influential comic publishers of the turn of the millennium.
