"Mysteries While Recovering From the Patriarchy"

Melissa Febos was struggling to write a book about surviving American girlhood. Mystery fiction presented a solution.
Preferences: female writers, female detectives (and investigators and protagonists in general), queer people, BIPOC, some murder but not gore or torture, excellent to decent writing, tight plots. Basically, NOT terrible writing about a bunch of white men standing around dead women's bodies.
