Horror movie franchises started in the 1930s with the Universal Monster movies.
Today successful horror movies often become franchises.
Among the most popular franchises you can find "Nightmare on Elm Street", "Halloween", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Friday the 13th", "Scream" and "Saw".
To make this list there has to be at least 3 movies in the series.
P.S: Franchises like "Trancers" and "Starship Troopers" did nok start as horror but later installments took the franchise in a more horror-oriented direction.
It also goes the other way around - e.g. the "Mummy"-franchise started as horror but has in the recent remakes taken a turn towards adventure.
