Feature length films nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture of the Year from 1927 through 2016 (film release years). A good number of them have not withstood the test of time very well and are indicative of what swayed the Academy at the time: technically for the scale of the production, politically. or the result of a studio campaign. There are some remakes repeated among them as well (e.g. Mutiny on the Bounty). As you go through the list you may find yourself wondering why a particular film that is now considered superb was not nominated. Snubs abound when it comes to the Motion Picture Academy.
