Phil Rizzuto's 15 Favorite Baseball Movies

"Former Yankee shortstop great and current Yankee broadcaster and telecaster Phil Rizzuto is a dyed-in-the-celluloid movie buff. He thinks nothing of going to an afternoon movie before a night game on the road, then sitting up until the wee hours watching old movies on television, often seeing as many as five or six movies in a day.
…Aside from the obvious reason, Rizzuto chose 'Pride of the Yankees' because he says it was the most authentic of all baseball movies. 'They used real ballplayers (Bill Dickey, Babe Ruth) and even the actors were believable as ballplayers. The baseball scenes were very realistic.' Rizzuto says he liked movies such as 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game' and 'It Happens Every Spring' because 'they were fun and entertaining, even if they were not realistic.'"
—from The Baseball Book of Lists (1983), edited by Phil Pepe and Zander Hollander
