Back in 1972, my teacher, Kevin Crossley-Holland, wrote a book called "Pieces of Land: Journeys to Eight Islands", in which described trips to Hoy, St. Agnes, Lindisfarne, Alderney, Tory, Eigg, Lundy, and Inishmore. It really brought home to me that the British Isles were exactly that - a conglomeration of large, small, hospitable, and inhospitable islands. Over the years, when I have gone back, I have tried to visit at least some of them. There is something about the North Sea and the North Atlantic that connects with me; I thank KC-H for starting me on this journey all those many years ago.
