"The last ten years saw seismic shifts in the way we hear electronic music, and music in general. Streaming services roared to prominence, the mix CD went obsolete (along with the CD itself), vinyl ceded more ground to mp3s, AIFFs and WAVs. Amid all this upheaval, though, the album held its own. For many artists, the long-player remains the best vessel for their music, especially the more nuanced, less clubby stuff, allowing the listener the fullest view of their musical world. Compilations play a similar role, in some cases showing us new sounds and micro-scenes with a level of depth and detail that wouldn't be possible on a single or an EP. It's a testament to how rich and free-flowing electronic music has become, and bodes well for the next decade of electronic music.
