Rough Guide to Books for Teenagers - Page 6

This list is based on books listed in the above book by Nicholas Tucker & Julia Eccleshare. Many of the books are by British writers, so they may not be well known. Each book was rated for age groups, I just put them in the order they were presented. Some books are for much older readers like Iain Banks "The Wasp Factory", so parents should check before letting their kids read any of the titles. Personally, having read two novels, I'd avoid Robert Cormier unless you like feeling there's no hope or justice in the world. I'd also would like to mention that Ann Halam's "Dr. Franklin's Island" sounds like a teen version of "The Island of Dr. Moreau" by H.G. Wells. I also am glad to see a book like "Girl in Red" included. It's hard to find stories that don't show Roma (Gypsies) negatively.
