SF Stories & Novellas: Great Short Science Fiction

Our Maverick English Teacher reflects on science fiction and the short story, and comes up with a list of 60 collections that clearly show how the short forms have given us some of the finest work in the genre.. As always, the list is personal, idiosyncratic, and decidedly Un-canonical. Most of the volumes are single author collections; however, several seminal anthologies that helped define the genre were necessarily included. All are worth a look; each has one or more gems that you might otherwise never experience.
Note: Although marketed as novels, "Fahrenheit 451" and "A Canticle for Leibowitz " are actually novellas. "Fahrenheit " was originally published as "The Fireman", and "Canticle" is a collection of three separate novellas first published separately in The Magazine of F&SF..
