Just as the title says, this list by a retired English teacher is a personal view of SOME great American (in this case U.S. ) authors. It is neither exhaustive nor authoritative; many well regarded works art missing due to the limit of 101 books. Also, story collections, essays, and plays have been excluded because, despite many people's belief to the contrary, they are NOT novels.
