Start From the Top: Debut Albums That Went to # 1, 1964-1999

It's along hard climb to the top of the charts, unless, say, you're the Knack or Whitney Houston. Not that there aren't drawbacks to releasing a smash debut album, there's enormous pressure to follow it up with something that sells in equal or even greater numbers (Whitney managed it, but the Knack? Not so much). Here's a list of overnight successes from the heyday of the album era, which I'm classifying as roughly 1964 to 1999 (i.e. British Invasion to iTunes).
