Stranger on a Train - Page 2

When I first went to live abroad it took nearly three days to travel by train from Scotland to Sicily. In those days, half a century ago, every carriage in Italy seemed to be occupied by three soldiers and two nuns, all travelling with impossible luggage and parcels of bread, salame and cheese wrapped in newspaper. It put me off the idea of travelling on the Trans-Siberian, although in North Korea I once boarded a carriage scheduled to arrive in Moscow six days later. I wisely got off after five hours at the first station in China. Anyway, here is a list of the countries - including two which no longer exist - where I have travelled by train, or at least by rail since the list includes a couple of countries where I used only the metro/subway.
