The 15 Best Police Procedural Movies of All Time

Police procedural films are a form of Crime cinema which focuses on the investigative work of the law enforcement and/or forensics teams in their attempts to solve a crime and/or have criminals arrested. Procedural crime films will also venture into Legal Drama narratives, often including a focus on forensics and the work of legal teams relating to the crime.
Police procedural films are often seen as the reverse of a Whodunit film, which follows the detectives until they eventually solve a crime (typically a murder). The opposite is focused on, where a detective or law enforcement agency will often already know or suspect the perpetrator of a crime from the beginning of the film. As a result, they are sometimes referred to as "howcatchem" movies.
