Winter writes: "The following list of approximately 150 motion pictures is intended to provide a comprehensive, if occasionally idiosyncratic, viewer's guide to the best of the modern generation of horror cinema. Unlike the preceding survey of horror fiction, this listing indulges in certain manifestations of tacky brilliance whose questionable merits as film are overcome resoundingly by their power to entertain. Again, the only limitation I have observed is to restrict my selections to no more than five titles from any individual director. Where films have been released under more than one title, I have indicated the alternative names in parentheses."
